Monoplace and multiplace hyperbaric chambers support different operational models. Neither category is universally better. The right choice depends on the program’s clinical or operational goals, anticipated volume, staffing approach, patient needs, available space, infrastructure, and long-term workflow.

Capacity and workflow

A monoplace chamber typically supports one person per treatment cycle, which can suit focused programs and a straightforward scheduling model. A multiplace chamber supports more than one occupant and can be planned around group capacity, attendant access, and coordinated treatment cycles. Compare expected demand, treatment duration, turnover, maintenance windows, and future growth rather than looking at capacity alone.

Facility implications

Each chamber type creates a distinct planning conversation around room size, access, utilities, ventilation, support equipment, and delivery. The final space requirements are specific to the selected configuration and manufacturer guidance. A site review should evaluate the entire equipment footprint and delivery route, not only the proposed treatment room.

Staffing and patient access

Consider how staff will prepare, monitor, communicate with, and assist patients before, during, and after treatment. Patient mobility, comfort, accessibility needs, the desired level of in-chamber access, and emergency procedures all influence the operating model. Staffing availability and training requirements should be planned alongside equipment selection.

Decision framework

Start with the program: intended use, projected volume, patient profile, hours of operation, staff model, facility constraints, budget scope, and growth horizon. Then compare PMT-supported configurations against those requirements with the project team. A chamber should fit the entire operating plan—not simply the room.
